Waterproof Actuator

Waterproof Actuator

Waterproof Actuators are necessary where food or pharmaceuticals are manufactured due to the washing and or sterilization of the equipment.   But machinery typically doesn't appreciate high-pressure spray or washing with caustic detergent solutions.  Designers, as a result, must take added measures to make sure every component on the machine can withstand whatever the cleaning process dishes out.

New Product Under Development for Long Travel Back and Forth Motion

Do you need a Motorized Linear Guide system capable of withstanding daily washing or survival in high moisture environments?.   Our washdown ready system is designed with no exposed drive system.  Movement is created by a timing belt pulley drive system concealed within a tubular structure and sealed from the environment.   An eight bearing supported carriage capable of moving a five pound load is magnetically coupled to the belt.  Strokes can be long and movement quick.

Tubular Stainless Steel Beam (Rail) Support

Toothed belt drive system contained within the beam is isolated from the elements outside.

Rail Dimensions:

  • Rail Cross Section:  1" x 2" (25.4 mm x 50.8 mm)
  • Rail Length: 105" (2667 mm)

Eight Bearing Carriage Assembly:

  • Height = 1.0" (25.4 mm)
  • Width = 2.0" (50.8 mm)
  • Length = 3.15" (80 mm)

Custom OEM Window Wiper System

Many food processing lines use multiple cameras to scan and monitor product quality. These typically are positioned just outside a window to keep them away from direct contact with liquids or sprays used in the processing environment. The window needs frequent cleaning as it gets clouded with solution residue. A windshield wiper system keeps the window clean allowing for 24/7 operation of the production line.

Multiple carriages can mounted and connected in series to allow for large panel wiping.

No Exposed Drive System

Isolating the drive system from the environment allows for easy cleaning and long life.

Special Preparation for Food or Pharmaceutical Plants

Large scale operations rely on chemical treatments because autoclaving (often used on small devices) is not an option.   Common chemical treatments include chlorine washes and ethylene gas.

If not mixed in appropriate proportions, cleaning agents can be either too rich or too weak and can degrade the level of sanitation or even damage the machine components.

Designers play an important role because the design of a piece of equipment greatly affects its cleanability.  Design decisions impact more than just cleanability.  They also impact how long it take to clean a piece of equipment.

Washdown Ready Telescopic Slides

Telescopic Drawer Slides in fully extended state.

Treated aluminum and cast iron work well in most washdown situations where washing and sterilization is infrequent.   However, stainless steel is best if components are put into service where they see frequent high-pressure washing and sterilization.   Stainless steel provides an outstanding combination of high strength, good corrosion resistance, and good mechanical properties at temperatures for food grade applications.

The FDA has regulations regarding the materials used in all machine surfaces that contact food.  he specs call for either high-grade stainless or polymer.   However, not all stainless steel is created equal.  There are many variations offering tradeoffs in corrosion resistance, magnetism, and machinability.
